VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Oklahoma GTG feeler
chrisrhoads 10-15-2006, 11:35 PM Well I know several of us have been talking about it. This is a feeler thread just to get an idea of how many would be interesting to coming to OKC, or Tulsa for a GTG. Lets assume we are talking here in the next 4 weeks or so.
I'm game. Just let me know when and where. As long as I do not have a booking, I'll be there. It would seem to me that OKC would be an easier option geographically as it is more towards the center of the state. In theory it would be easier for more people to get to than Tulsa since T-town is towards the northeastern corner of the state. Plus, and much more importantly, I am already in OKC and wouldn't have to drive so durn far.... :hiding: :D
Just depends on my schedule, but I would be interested.
ElMon 10-16-2006, 09:35 PM Count me in.
Bryan_G 10-17-2006, 08:41 PM I would be up for it.
Biker4Him 10-18-2006, 02:39 PM I'm game.
I'd even offer to host it at my office.. but it won't really hold more than 3-5 people. I don't know what's available for rent inside OKC.. but I know here in Yukon.. we can rent the Round-Up Club for $100 a day. It's big enough for 20-30 of us to bring all our gear, there is a bathroom, there is electricity.. and there's nothing around that would be distrubed by thunderous low B's!!
It's fairly easy to get to.. it's right on Hwy 66. 2 miles north of I-40.
I'm not available this Saturday, or next Saturday.
Round Up Club is fine by me. I don't mind pitching $20 or so in to rent a spot where we can safely crank up some toys without the neighbors coming over with pitchforks and torches.
After the 21st (I have both a show and a wedding I am performing that day http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=282642 , odd I know) I have somehow managed to not have any shows on Saturdays booked till Nov. 18th. I could probably even do the 18th if we got together earlier during the day (nearby Bricktown gig that night). Of course, a Saturday daytime GTG would present football gameday issues. Still a Saturday would work best for me personally.
ElMon 10-18-2006, 09:50 PM Saturday during the afternoon, around 2pm, would work 4 me.
chrisrhoads 10-19-2006, 08:16 PM can we wait till november. I am booked till then pretty solid.
saxofunk 02-10-2007, 11:32 PM Bump.
I'm in Tulsa but nothing against a trip to OKC if the timing is right.
AxtoOx 02-11-2007, 03:17 AM I'm in Duncan, OKC is fine, Tulsa is a little far. Keep me posted.
Sarbecue Boss 02-14-2007, 01:05 PM I'm in Yukon
Biker4Him 02-14-2007, 01:26 PM I'm in Yukon
Me too!!
Sarbecue Boss 02-16-2007, 12:30 AM Awesome, are you currently playing anywhere?
alembic76407 02-20-2007, 11:09 AM Is this still in the planning stages?
sounds fun to me, keep me posted
David T
Bigoo7e 02-20-2007, 11:15 AM Keep me posted, I have a buddy or two that might be interested as well.
Peace,
I'm still up for it as long as I don't have a conflicting booking that particular day.
mr. eff 02-26-2007, 11:10 AM I'd be interested in okc, even though I live in TX. Well i do live right on the border. But okc wouldn't be to bad of a drive, and I have a good friend who lives there. He also happens to play bass too.
ElMon 02-26-2007, 11:49 AM If we work this out, it needs to be A) In a pre-arranged facility large enough to fit both our rigs and our tremendous egos and B) at least 4 or 5 months in advance.
I'd be willing to shell out a few bucks to help rent a spot if need be.
I also concur that we need to place it far enough off that everyone (who want to do so) can arrange to be there. Say late May or so?
I would be willing to chip in a few bucks towards renting a spot for a day as well.
Anybody in the OKC area want to take charge and start planning this? I would volunteer, but I'm 2 hours northwest of OKC.
Bigoo7e 02-27-2007, 11:23 AM I would not mind pitching in as well, But if I stay out too late I might need a place to crash but I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there. My buddies mom works for Best Western so I can get a room fairly cheap as long as it is not on a holiday or some big event is going on where we will be having it.
Peace,
Biker4Him 02-27-2007, 11:29 AM The Round Up club has an old building here in Yukon. It's probably about 800 sq feet, with electricity. It's $100 a day to rent. Lot's of parking, and nothing too close that would get upset if it gets too loud. It's easy access right on the "MotherRoad" Hwy 66. Less than 3 miles from I-40.
I could front the money to get it rented for a day, but it might be a week or so before I could start working on it.
Evan... you could stay at my house. The dogs are always looking for someone new to sleep with.
ElMon 02-27-2007, 11:41 AM How bout June? Say, on a Saturday afternoon.
Bigoo7e 02-27-2007, 11:41 AM Evan... you could stay at my house. The dogs are always looking for someone new to sleep with.
Thanks, I might have to take you up on that offer... I might a friend that might be with me he can sleep on the floor though. :p
Little dogs or big ones? LOL, I am a big fella and if it's a big dog(s) they going to have to sleep at my feet! ;)
Peace,
ElMon 02-27-2007, 11:43 AM Also, let's make sure that everyone can work out a part to 'Big Bottom', ala Spinal Tap. I mean, come on, we HAVE to do that.

Umm... ok, you are going to have to fill be in on that one my friend. :help:

I've got $20 on it. Sounds like that would work admirably.

Peace,
Go rent "Spinal Tap". Awesome scene where 3 band members all sling a bass for a rediculously funny song. Sample lyrics...
"The bigger the wasteband, the deeper the quicksand"
"Big Bottom, Big Bottom, talk about buncakes, my girl's gotem"
Quite funny actually.
Biker4Him 02-28-2007, 10:34 AM Quite funny actually.
Top five movie of all time, and standard watching requirement of ANYONE that's in a band.
However.. I made my wife watch it once, and after it was over she said "I don't get it"..
Biker4Him 03-25-2007, 07:44 PM o.k. guys... just got through doiing a little TFB550 vs UL502 shootout with ElMon..
waddya say we start nailing a date down and actually do this thing instead of talking about it.
ElMon 03-25-2007, 08:58 PM Saturday Afternoon from 12pm-??? on May 19th? Just throwin that out there.
ArmyPunkGuy 03-25-2007, 09:01 PM is this open to any bassists in OK? I'd love to go providing it isn't during the week
Biker4Him 03-25-2007, 09:13 PM Yep.. open to anybody.. even texans..:p
I think (unless anybody has a better idea).. I'll rent out the "Round-Up Club" here in Yukon.. we'll all have to pitch in to pay the rent.. but it won't be much if we spread it amongst us all.
19th of may..I can't make it that day...
May 12th, and 26th look o.k.
ArmyPunkGuy 03-25-2007, 09:16 PM I'm game
Well crud. May 12th I have a wedding gig, which will probably nix the whole day for me. May 26th I have both a day gig at an arts festival and an evening gig later on, so I am shot for that day also. I'm outta town for a casino gig the first weekend of June too.
Any way I could talk everyone into making the GTG on June 9th?
Biker4Him 03-25-2007, 09:27 PM dang both of you Lukes....
Hey Luke #2...what time you playing the 28th at the Arts Festival. We are playing Sunday (29th) at 3:00.. on the Deck stage. I've never played the Deck Stage, we always play the Water stage..
I'm also busy the 9th of June.. what about June 16th.
What about May 5, or any of the Saturday's in April??
dang both of you Lukes....

May 5th I have a cinco de mayo gig in Stillwater. I think that gig is an early evening one, so I could probably make that day early afternoon. I'll check the gig time with the guy that booked me and check back in with this thread. I am pretty sure that I could make this day early though.
I don't have anything going on June 16th, but I am a little hesitant to say that I could definitely make that date. I have a show in Fayetville the night before. Doubt that I'll be back from Arkansas till later on the 16th.
Either April 7th or 28th would work for me too. The other April Saturdays are shot for me.
I was sitting here thinking about how much I suck as I have this packed schedule. Then it occured to me. There are worse things in life than to be hard pressed to find a spare Saturday afternoon free when you are a musician. Heck, I could have every weekend free because I wasn't getting booked.
Re: May 26th @ arts festival
Honestly I am not sure what time I'm playing that day. Organised huh? I just picked up that date a little under a week or so ago with a latinish guitarist singer named Daryush. Pretty sure it is going to be on the water stage. Although Daryush didn't flat out state that it was, he asked me if I'd ever played on it before right after booking me for that date. I think I might actually get to bring out the upright for a song or two. Heh heh, they don't realize how much of a hack I am on upright... ;)
ElMon 03-25-2007, 11:20 PM I'll get back to you guys tomorrow. Lil Lady needs to type a paper.
Henry, it was cool today. Thanks again for the space and time.

No sweat, it's always fun to hang out, try gear, and just goof off.
The afternoon of May 5th would definitely work for me. I don't need to be in Stillwater till 6ish.
Biker4Him 03-26-2007, 08:37 PM aight then... how is May 5th for everyone else????
Speak now...
AxtoOx 03-27-2007, 08:00 AM Ok, I've missed 2 pages of this, I gather it's in the City, where? May 5 th? I'll check my work schedule or see if I can swap with someone.
What are we bringing. Are we amplified?
Got a gig May 5, but I should be able to be there as long as I leave by around 5:00 pm
Do we know if that club is available to rent out on May 5th? Since that date is cinco de mayo, it might be already booked.
Biker4Him 03-28-2007, 08:27 PM I haven't checked yet... I was hoping to get more response.
Heck if we've only got 4 or 5 of us.. we can save our money and meet at my office building.
Come on guys... everyone chime in... is May 5th good? any other dates??
alembic76407 03-29-2007, 07:25 AM I'm still in, sounds like fun, last month I went to an Alembic Bass GTG in Dallas, a room full of bass players, can't get any better !!!!

ElMon 03-29-2007, 11:34 AM Saturday Afternoon, May 5th. I'm still in.
Well May the 5th just got taken out the mix for me. If it changes, let me know and I'll try to make it.
saxofunk 04-03-2007, 01:28 PM I am watching this thread - my schedule changes quickly so I won't commit, but if I can be there, I will.
Is anyone coming to the Tulsa Guitar Show, June 2nd & 3rd?
Lets get the ball rolling on this since we have less than a month till may 5th.
I will be in attendance. I am willing to pitch in $20 or so bucks to rent an establishment. I'll also bring my basses (warwick, el'cheapo semi-modded jazz, and possibly my upright) as well as my rig (thunderfunk 550, EA nl-210/cxl-112, Crown MA 2402).

Bigoo7e 04-09-2007, 12:46 PM Awesome... I still need to round up the troops, We need to get DCR in on this if he is not in the boat already he lives in Ark-Kansas, he has a lot of great gear, any anyone else we know from Ark. too we could PM or try to get on board.
If that date is set in stone then I need to get my peepz together A.S.A.P so we can all take off and clear are calenders.
Peace,
Saw it! That's a bit far for me and my work schedule stays pretty tight, due to lots of OT. But I'm watching.....
If I could make it, I'd be glad to throw in a $20. But don't on me until you see me drive up!

Bummer dude, well we can send someone by with a trailer to pick some of your gear up and a release forum... I do not think you would mind. :ninja:

Peace,
Well, you could send a trailer and $250 and pick up my Dearmond Pilot 5er. I certainly wouldn't mind that!:D

Biker4Him 04-10-2007, 11:18 AM O.K. guys.. sorry I've been too busy to work on this.
I have (today) called the lady in charge of the Round Up club to see if it is available on May 5th. I should hear back from her this evening sometime. After I know for sure I will post it here, and also start a new thread.
Sorry for the delay... lot's of excuses.. but that's all they are.
Biker4Him 04-11-2007, 07:54 PM Well, the "Round Up CLub" is already booked on May 5th, aparently it has been for months.
They said the next Saturday they had avialable was the 26th of May, and then in June.
Well I have two gigs on May 26th so that kills my ability to participate on that date. Other than the first week of June, I think that I can attend during the day on Saturday.
right now, May 26 and June 2, 16 & 23 are open for me. (subject to change, of course).:hmm:
If we can get a commitment from 4 other people, I'll chuck $20 in the pot whether I make it or not.
Biker4Him 04-12-2007, 12:04 PM I am also busy June 9th.. so currently I am free on any of the other days in June.
June 2, 16, 23, 30.. ???
Let's see if we can't get a date nailed down for this.
saxofunk 06-01-2007, 08:45 AM Tulsa Guitar Show this weekend. Anyone going to be there (besides me)? There's a bass clinic this year.
TULSA GUITAR SHOW (http://www.tulsaguitarshow.rsvp1.com/)
Arise from the dead!
I know this is an old thread, but I thought that I'd resurrect it to see if there was any interest in finally making this TB okie hang happen.
AxtoOx 07-27-2008, 05:48 PM I'm still interested. Let's get it together. I've got a ton on gigs comming up is my main problem (if you can call that a problem:)).
Like I said in a previous post, OKC is best for me, or even Chickasha would be better.
mwhite89 07-27-2008, 05:56 PM Hi,
OKC, or Tulsa would be fine with me. :bassist:
Biker4Him 07-27-2008, 06:58 PM I'm still in!!
voodoobassist 07-27-2008, 07:10 PM Hiya, fairly new here, but would be interested in seeing other okie bassists. I'm a transplanted Tulsan, originally from OKC, sounds like a bit of fun for the whole family,...well,.. except for the guitar guys anyway,...and we all know they don't count! :D
I'm still up for it. Somebody gonna step up and be in charge?
greenbass5 07-28-2008, 05:49 AM Count this ole hack in!
AxtoOx 07-28-2008, 08:44 AM I'm still up for it. Somebody gonna step up and be in charge?I won't take charge, but I have time to herd the cats if someone in OKC can't do it.
How many are we looking at?
What do we plan to do, I look at it as networking, so we don't really have to play.
How long are we looking at, I may have to split for a gig. I've got a hand that will set me up, and if we are playing in Chickasha that weekend it would be a piece if cake. I would be free till 8:00 or so. Lawton and I'd have to leave around 7ish.
I'm single and in a 3 bedroom house. Heck we could do it here if people are up for the drive. I know gas is a consideration right now.
mrniceguy715 07-28-2008, 08:58 AM I'm in. Been looking for local bassist. We need to spread the word to others and get them on talk bass.
AxtoOx 07-28-2008, 09:19 AM I'm in. Been looking for local bassist. We need to spread the word to others and get them on talk bass. One way we could start the networking is to send friend requests to everyone here who has a MySpace.
Mine, you hit the "home page" tab.
Mr nice guy, I tried yours, but just got a background.
Would it be possibe to rent out the Round Up club for this like we mentioned for the previous go round? I'd still be willing to toss in some cash on it if so.
Biker4Him 07-29-2008, 08:49 PM I dunno. My wife knows the lady that is in charge of renting it out. I'll get the number from her tomorrow, and call the lady and see what dates are available.
AxtoOx 07-29-2008, 09:22 PM Anyone started a head count yet?
Not yet. Here I'll start it.
1...
:hiding: next.
mrniceguy715 07-29-2008, 10:59 PM im in and I can talk to bravo11 see if he is in. yukon would be fine. I could check and see if I still know anyone with venues.
ToddC 07-30-2008, 07:47 AM I'm in and will ask if we can do this at my work place.
We have a large lunch room that would work fine.
ToddC 08-15-2008, 09:57 PM From the votes I'm going to assume we have 21 interested players. If 80% of those show up that's 17.01 people. Since I don't know any .01 persons lets assume .01 is a whole person and call it 18.
What do people expect to do at the GTG?
Do we need food?
Do we need a special guest or presentation?
Would everyone like a chance to show thier stuff? If so how much time per person?
Should we have an agenda or keep it loose?
Any other questions we need to ask?
If it goes well and no damage or theft at our location we could do this on a regular basis.
My boss gets back next week and I expect he'll have an answer for me.
Dandy Dan 08-15-2008, 10:18 PM I am in enid and available!!!! Let me know something.
mrniceguy715 08-16-2008, 07:57 AM we can just be casual, bring some gear. swap trade sale. try new stuff see what all is going on. there are lots of bassist not on talk bass. been trying to get my teacher on here he has a masters of strings from UCO. and there lots of double bass guys from OCU so we should hit up the DB forums too
Nicka 01-11-2009, 11:45 PM Did this ever go through?? I usually don't watch this forum but I got curious.
If it didn't go down, let's get an email list together and set this up a couple months in advance. I'd be willing to do some footwork as well in helping get things together. Let's make it happen!
mrniceguy715 01-12-2009, 05:46 AM not yet but we need to do something one of these days
ToddC 01-12-2009, 07:34 AM Maybe a yahoo group? Bass Players of OK?
If anything does happen, I'm still in.
Nicka 01-12-2009, 09:10 PM Ok cool.
Well, send your emails to ambrithal@gmail.com and I will start compiling a list.
Maybe we can meet up at a local music store and go have a drink or something (coffee for me) and we can swap ideas on a place to get together and throw down some lines together in the next couple of months?
