I have a very early L2, previously owned by the late,great Dee Murray of the Elton John Band. It can be heard on the "Too Low For Zero" album and its single "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues".

When in doubt, create a new club! That way, when the "original" Steinberger club guys get all in a huff, the "new" Steinberger club guys can rumble with them under the overpass, just like Sharks versus Jets.

i think the only better way to open a 'berger thread is with geddy's bass
but he still owns it i believe

I'd be real curious to know how many of the guys who were "featured artists" when Steinberger's first hit the market still have theirs: Andy West, Tony Levin, Danny Klein, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Sting... ya don't see any of those guys toting a 'berger any more. Are they just gathering dust in their respective closets?

I've got an early L2, was endorsed by Steinberger throughout the 80's. This was my workhorse bass from Oct '82'-July '89', loved it and sounds great. It's now retired in my home.

There is only 1 Bart and that's the bridge pup, it's not original. The epoxy around the EMG cracked back in '83' and the pup was dead. The tech at the time who replaced the pup couldn't get a replacement EMG, so I ended up getting a passive Bartolini pup, which sounds quite good.

The only one I can name is UB40 bassplayer Earl Falconer

Who has been using his L2 for over 24 years and counting.

I have a White '87 Steiny XL-2 and an '99 Spirit XT-2 model. Both absofruitly wonderful instruments.

I played my Steinberger XL-2 at a gig on Sunday morning downtown. It was about 40 degrees out, but the Steinberger was cooking. Sounded just great in the mix.
