Fodera: 34" w/ Extended B, or 35" Regular B???

Hey all,

if you were to buy a Fodera 5'er, would you get a 34" scale with their extended LowB, or their 35" scale with regular Low B?

34" with extended B. Why add the extra scale length if you don't want it?

Both set-ups work. It's really a physical issue/decision. If you're hands are smaller you may want to stick with the 34 anyway. I've had a couple of 34" Fodera basses and they all had very respectable B strings.

34" with the non-extended B peghead. I am still not sold on the effect of string length from nut to tuning machine.

i like the extra tension on all my strings, not just the B.

He is correct. The only thing that matters is the distance between bridge and nut. Everything after those do not vibrate, and therefore do not add/detract from tone/sound.

Totally agreed, I cant believe that Fodera or any ohter bass manufacter believe in that.

woah,

so, you're tellin' me Joe/Vinnie have been pullin' the wool over my eyes??? hmm...

wouldnt the LowB be tooo floppy to effectively slap or even finger on? i use a .128 if that matters.

are Fodie's 35" scale that much worse to play than a 34".

any Elrick guys wanna comment on our 35" feel vs. Fodera's 35" feel???

My Elrick NJS fretless is easily one of the best feeling and sounding B's in existence IMO. Can't say I've had the same experience with Foderas though they usually were quite nice.

I know... it was a fun way to say I disagree

I don't know how much effect the tuner placement makes on the Foderas. I do know that I don't know enough about them to say they make no difference.

The position of the string on the headstock has no effect on the sound once a note is fretted. Try putting a locking nut on a fixed-bridge guitar as a demonstration--while open strings may sound different with the nut locked and unlocked, fretted notes are the same.

I think a point that may be missed is that tone/sound are not the only things that could be affected by this arrangement.

Seems that way to me. You can't honestly market it on tension since you're not changing the scale length.
